
Also in 1992, Mr. Wakefield and Mr. Robert W. Murphy, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, formed John Taylor Golf, Inc. (JTGI). Named after Mr. Wakefield's two oldest sons, JTGI was formed to purchase, own and operate the golf course. On March 1, 1993, JTGI purchased the 272-acre site.
Golf course construction necessitates significant site surveying, topographic mapping, and soil analysis. Upon completion of these tasks, Mr. Wakefield and Mr. Murphy determined that it was time to name the golf course. Within a few days and under very unusual circumstances, both men independently selected THE BOG as the name for the golf course. Once the name was selected, work began on an accompanying logo. In May of 1994, THE BOG's identity emerged.
Golf course design began in late 1992. JTGI selected Palmer Course Design Company as the architect after interviewing several of the premier golf courses designed in the United States. Palmer Course Design was selected because of their emphasis on traditional design principles. > Read More
