
In mid-1990, THE BOG's Founder, Terry Wakefield, began a search for suitable sites for a high quality golf facility. His search was motivated by a belief that excess demand existed to support a new, upscale golf course in the Milwaukee metropolitan market. Mr. Wakefield's initial parameters for a golf course site included a minimum of 200 contiguous acres, rolling topography, abundant and diverse natural features, and a location within 30 minutes of downtown Milwaukee near the I-43 corridor.
After nearly two years of site exploration, Mr. Wakefield selected a 272-acre parcel in the Town of Saukville. In early 1992, options were signed with three different individuals whose families had owned the site for decades. In mid-1992, Mr. Wakefield commissioned a market study for development of a golf course on the property.
